INCENDIARISM IN SOUTHLAND.
[Press Special Wire.] INYKROAKtULL, April 30. A Magisterial n quiry was held afc the Gaol to-day, into the charge of incendiarism against Patrick McMenamin for fi'ing a stable, and causing the death of the entire horse Young Lofty. A number of witnesses who bad been examined at the inquest hold on the affair a month ago, were re-examined, and nothing fresh was elicited until a new v \y witness, J uaes Lyons, who had been ii the service of the Brothers MeMonamin, was examined. lie stated that his tent was close to that of the brothers, and one night ho overheard n conversation between them. James MeMonamin toid his brother that if he would lay brush about and on the stable, lie would do the vest of the business. A few nights afterward, on the night of t he 22nd of March, Lyons heard James McMenamin get up and go out of the tent. Ho watched him and followed him to where the stable was, nearly throe miles off, and taw him set fire to it and knock the horse on the head with a crowbar. At this stag! of the enquiry Mr T. M. McDonald, who was conducting the prosecution, asked leave to withdraw the information against Patrick McMenamin, and lay a fresh one against the brothers conjointly. Leave was granted, and a warrant was issued against James McMenamin He was arrested, but afterwards admitted to bail, himself in £2OO, and two sureties in £2OO each. The case is is to be bo gone into at the R.M. Court on Monday next.
