BOARD OP HEALTH.

The adjourned meeting of the Local Board of Health took place this morning. There were present—Messrs Harman (in the chair), Hobbs, Tancred, Ross, and Brown. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and coufii med. inspector’s report. Tho report of the inspector was read and adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letteis received since last meeting were read ; A letter was received from the town clerk, acknowledging receipt of a letter from the Board, covering Dr. Powell’s report on dry gullies and depressions within the city, and stating that the City Council had referred the report to the sanitary committee to consider and report upon. Prom Mr GK H. Morley, of Cooper’s road, conveying the notification that his child was suffering from diphtheria. The writer also said he had lost two children from sickness previously, and attributed the unhealthineso of the locality to the nuisance caused by the existence of piggeries in that vicinity, and Chinese gardens, which were made a repository for all sorts of filth and refuse. The former nuisance was being attended to, but not tho latter. The writer anxious to be understood as not desiring to reflect upon the inspector. Mr Brown confirmed the statement that sickness was prevalent in tho locality. It appeared that the Chinamen had been putting fish on their ground, from which a very objectionable stench arose. After some little discussion it was resolved that the inspector should take steps to see that the nuisance was abated. From James Buvbury, calling attention to a nuisance on the premises of Stephen Lawrence, at the corner of Third street, Colombo road. Tho inspector explained that the nuisance had been since removed. INFECTIOUS DISEASES, The following is a list of infectious diseases reported to the Board of Health since last meeting of the Board on March 31st, 1879: — Typhoid, 33 ; diphtheria, 9. There were no cases of scarlet fever recorded. ’ ACCOUNTS. Certain accounts having been passed for payment the Board adjourned.
