NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.
[FROM OTJS OTTK COHBBBPONDBNTB.] Dunedin, January 17. The “ Tablet ” says that Mr Stout’s speech can have only one effect on Catholics —to confirm them in the conviction that nothing but a determined persevering agitation can win for them what justice and equity demand in the matter of education. Mr Thomas was presented with a purse of seventy sovs by his admirers. A difficulty is likely to arise re the annual rifle match between Canterbury and Otago. As Canterbury’s annual meeting takes place on Easter according to present arrangements, the match should be fired then, or four months after the first match. The next competition would not take place till the Otago meeting in December, 1880, or an interval of nearly twenty months.
