Waimakiriri Punt,—We learn that the Waimakariri punt is afloat again, and fit for traffic, Orchestral Society’s Concert. —This concert will take place this evening, at the Oddfellows’ Hall. A very excellent programme has been prepart d for the occasion.

Telegraphic.—The Macgregor is expected to leave Auckland on Friday, the 13lh inst. Telegrams for the Australian Colonies or Europe, via Java cable, will be received at the telegraph office for transmission to Auckland up to 8 p.m. of the 13th inst. The New Race Stand.—Owing to the number of guarantors towards the amount necessary for the erection of the new Grand Stand, contemplated by the C.J.C., not having been completed, the idea of the erection of the building has been postponed for the present. Nominations for Cup and Handicap. —At the meeting of the C.J.C. held last evening, it was resolved, in order to allow of owners at a distance having full opportunity to nominate horses, that the date of nomination for the Canterbury Cup and C.J .0. Handicap should be extended from the Ist to the 20th September, the weights to appear on or about October Ist.

Misfortunes at Sea, serious as they are in their nature, and influence iu domestic and commercial life, will no doubt be felt in Christchurch for some time, as by the Easby which arrived in our port yesterday from Sydney, losing so much fruit overboard, the trade is not well supplied. J. P. Oliver and Co have received only a small consign ment, 150 cases of oranges, pines, almonds, &c, and fear they will have to disappoint customers who do not send in their orders this week. — [Advt. ] In a Pecuniary Sense, those who reside within and outside the Belt should be present at the Sale of Drapery and Clothing at the premises of J. and J. Crothers, Colombo street, commencing. on Saturday next, and continuing till the entire stock is cleared out, in order to commence the Spring with Fresh Goods. They will undoubtedly sell at sacrificing prices, and rich and poor—male and female—should visit this establishment, —[Advt.] Soap. —Many persons who have cometothis province of late, may not know that the soap branded with a star, is of a very superior description, to most other sorts in use here. Very severe tests have proved that it is manufactured on the strictest chemical principles so as to produce an article, which whilst it possesses thorough cleansing properties, does not injure the finest fabrics, or affect the hands in the slightest degree. The public generally, will find it to their advantage to use this soap, as in addition to the above mentioned qualifications, it is sold at a lower price than most other kinds. A single tria will prove the foregoing facts to the satisfaction of all.—Advt.
