ENGLISH COMMERCIAL. wool.. . . Messrs Miles Bros and Co report on October * There is little or no change to notice in the state of the wool market since our last on the 20th inst, ' «nd as the time prior to the commencement of the November sales is now so short, we do not look for any private enquiries. Advices from the manufacturing districts state that business is good, and wool is rapidly going into consumption, so that DTOspects for the remainder of this year are good, but it is difficult to say at this early date whether present prices will be maintained during the en- '■'■ suing'season, as we understand that the importations are likely to be large, and much will depend . upon foreign support. The arrivals to date for the next series, areBales. - ' Sydney ... 16-727 Fort Phillip 8281 Adelaide; 1679 Swanßiver 405 * Van Diemens' Land 347 New Zealand - 9391 Cape 31,998 .'-.-.-- Total .. .. 68,730 WHEAT AND FLOUH. . . Messrs Burrows and Berks report, under date 28th October:— ~ , That- there is. but little alteration to note In the values of wheat and flour, but tendency of prices has invariably been in favor of buyers. The small quantity of Adelaide wheat has been cleared off at 63s per 496 lbs ex granary, "and there is now little, if any, left on our market? this class of wheat only maintains its value from its scarcity, red American and Russian sorts having continued to fall steadily in value during the whole month. Best Adelaide wheat may now be quoted • aswrorth nominally (in the absence of any quautity here) 50s to 52s per 426 lbs ex granary. Of superfine Adelaide flour there is also none now here unsold, the nominal value being from 35s to 37s per . 280 lbs, ex granary. Secondary and inferior sorts much neglected, and only saleable at comparatively low figures, from 27 s to 32s per 280 lbs, the very best brands of our own country flour bringing with difficulty 29s to 30s per 280 lbs here. The grain arrivals from the colonies during the month have been but few, the Kakaia and Scimitar only from New Zealand. Messrs Miles Brothers and Co report:— The same languid feeling still continues to pervade the wheat market, and prices are, if anything, rather more depressed. The arrivals of foreign Earcels during the last three days have not been irge, but the quautity on passage, 947,200 quarters, will prevent any improvement taking place for some . months, New Zealand wheat is now worth 44s to 488 per 4961b5, and flour 31s to 36s per 280 lbs, both 'according' to quality. IT .'■': NEW ZEALAND HEMP.
. Messrs Mites and Co report:— There has been a slight Improvement in the demand for this article lately, probably owing to the falling of! of the importations and stocks in im- • porters' hands being held back, but fresh supplies would immediately weaken the market. At auction on the 21st lair realised £2O 15s: fair common, £ll ss to £lt 10s; good common, £lB to £2O ss. PRESERVED MEAT. The Australian Meat Agency (Tallerman's) Company, Limited, report, under date .London, October 28th:— .~; /_,-•?-'■*.•.' « The inquiry for preserved meat during the month has improved to a moderate extent, and there is every probability of its continuance. Prices, however, have not improved, neither is there any probability of their doing- so for a-tfme at least. Preservers must be satisfied by finding their shipments meet with a ready sale, and they must look for their profits in a decrease in the cost of cattle and sheep, a more economical mode of conducting their working operations, and a reduction iu the cost bf reajiR»tion and distribution, in each of which items there i» ample room for improvement. During the month the arrivals have reached 4:3,774 cases, viz=S?MI cases irom colonial, and 6853 cases from Sfflnpwrt". This is an increase on last month's tow imports o' 2v> 358 caeee,
