Mf.lbouiine. —The “ Argus” of the sth reports —“ In the import markets business to-day has been rather slow, and not many transactions have come before us of any special importance, but a more general inquiry is beginning to be experienced, which is expected to lead to sales. Breadstuff's are very firm, and prices arc likely to rise. There is now little wheat to be met with. A large line was under treaty all day, and when that is closed for, supplies to meet requirements will be more difficult to find. For prime 5s lOd is demanded, and medium is worth 58 7d to 5s Bd. Flour is very firm. There is none now offering under £l2 5s in parcels, and up to £l2 10s is generally asked for best brands. Holders are very stiff. Bakers’ lots are unaltered, however, and there is only a moderate trade demand at £l2 15s, bags returned. Oats arc inactive, and our quotations for common to line feeding are unaltered, 5s to 5s 4d being wanted. Maize Is again a trifle easier; a few hundred bags have been placed at 5s 7d, and a fair business is doing. We note an Improved inquiry for teas and sugars, and some good sales are pending. Of the former, actual business is reported at is 8d to Is lOd for congous. Candles have also come suddenly into notice. Some large buyers were in the market this afternoon, and offers were made to clear out holders. We have not yet heard of any practical result; business, however, is evidently meant. Kerosene oil does not attract much attention for local use; a good demand exists for export. A line of 500 cases Devoe’s has been placed for shipment at 1s 2}d. Hennessy’s brandy is hardening; for small lots 8s is asked, and we understand that a parcel of 25 hhds and 100 quarters has been taken up in one line at 7s 10$d. Stocks of Hennessy’s case are running somewhat low again, and an advance in price may be expected ere long.” Mauritius.— The “Argus” reports Telegraphic advices have been received from Mauritius, via Aden, to 13th November. The sailings for Melbourne were— the Madura, with refining sugars, and the Emily for Melbourne, with 425 tons. The Brazil was the only vessel loading for this port. The Crasomene had sailed for Adelaide with 250 tons. For the Colonies there were i o enquiries, but for Europe and Bombay there was a large business doing. Shipments to the colonies to date amounted to only 5000 tons. Brices had advanced 25c to 30c. Constance was quoted at 7.75 dols, Labourdonnais at 7.25 dols, and No 14 at 6.50 dols, with a very firm market. It is moreover stated that grevs cannot be shipped after 15th December. Buyers here have in consequence operated with great freedom in the market, all outside shipments having been taken up by one firm chiefly, at improved rates. THE AUSTRALIAN CORN MARKET. The “Australasian” of the sth reports The market for breadstuff's has continued dull, business has been on quite a limited scale, and prices showed a slight downward tendency until to-day. At the close of last week flour was quoted £l2 2s fid to £l2 7s 6d for parcels ; for any bakers’ lot £l2 15s to £l3 (bags returned) was obtained. Yesterday a moderate demand was experienced for parcels at £l2 2s Cd to £l2 ss, the market being firm at that quotation ; bakers’lots realising £l2 15s, bags returned. To-day, at auction, a small lot fetched £l2 ss, and after the sale £l2 7s 6d was got. Wheat being in a very few hands, the number of transactions is small. Prices have ranged up to 5s 9d for prime, 6s 7d being given for good medium. At auction this forenoon a small lot was sold at 5s Old, and 3000 bushels mixed milling at 5s 7d; sales of New Zealand were also effected at 5s 6d. In oats nothing is doing ; v*e have no sales of Californian to refer to, and we continue to qnote 5s to 5s 4d for ordinary to good feeding. Malting barley is saleable at 5s 6d; feeding at 4s 9d to ss. Maize is easier; on Monday a sale of 1800 bags was effected on terms withheld; 5s 8d is, however, very generally paid. Bran is quoted at Is sd; pollard, Is 7d to is Bd. Victorian oatmeal is charged £32. At auction pearl barley has found purchasers at £29.” 'Adelaide. —The following telegrams appear in the “ Argus” December 2nd—Sales of new wheat have been made at 4s 6d. December 3rd—The new wheat is coming in. Prices have a lower tendency. December 4th— Buyers offer 4s 4d to 4s 5d for new wheat. December sth—Sales of wheat have been made at 4s 4d to 4s 6d.
