The valuation of the City property for the present year gives the rateable value at £127,2G1, as against £57,:52(> for last year. Two sections on the reclaimed land were sold to-day for £<!00, showing a protit of over £4OO. They are only leasehold, and measure 85 feet by !55 each. Wellington, November 3. The Victoria Insurance Company refuse to pay £IOOO, for which the steamer Paterson was insured in that office. The South British, New Zealand, and National have paid their losses, £4COO in all. George Donne is the successful tenderer for advertising on the following railway lines:—Auckland to Mercer, Nelson to Foxhill, Picton to Blenheim, Bruuuer to Greymouth. Port Chalmers, November 3. The ship Lennox Castle, 105 days from London, arrived yesterday; she lost a boy overboard from the mainyard. She brings three bulls and three heifers of the shorthorn breed, for the New Zealand JLoan and Mercanilc Company. [ FROM OUR DUNEDIN CORRESPONDENT.J November 2. The Education Board to-day accepted Mr Hawthorne's resignation of the rectorship of Ihe High School, and recorded their sense of his zeal and assiduity, and regret that circumstancf s necessitated his resignation. The Government intend to give him a year's salary, lie was offered and refused the rectarship of the Normal School.
