Dunedin, October 28. A meeting of the settlers of Outram was held at the Drillshed, last night, for the purpose of considering what were the best steps for having a branch line of railway made, connecting Outram with the Dunedin and Balclutha main line. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Executive on Tuesday next, urging the necessity of making a branch railway out of the £60,000 granted by the General Assembly. At a meeting of ministers yesterday the question of Sunday funerals was considered. The Daily Times learns that a funeral reform association has been set on foot. Auckland, October 28. Charles Dyer, for the murder of Eliza Battersea, will be executed on Friday morning. Mr Joseph May has been returned as a member of the Provincial Council. Grahamstown, October 28. The Advertiser's mail summary gives the quantity of gold procured since last mail. The amount is 9676 ounces, showing an increase of 1857 ounces during the month. The Manakau, Bright Smile, and Queen of Beauty, have paid £76 to £BO dividends.

A fire, at Kakanui, destroyed the premises of Mr Oldham, draper. He was insured for £325.
