PORT OF LYTTELTON. ARRIVED. Oct 14—Flying Cloud, schooner, 48 tons, Andrews, from Hokitika, with timber. SAILED. Oct 14 —Esther, brigantine, 47 tons, Johnston, for Oamaru, Oct 14 —Elizabeth Ann, ketch, 27 tons, for Port Levy. The s.s. Taranaki, Captain Wheeler, sail 3 for North this afternoon. Several vessels are ready for sea, and most likely will proceed for their destination tonight. The great gale last night, though it blew very hard, did little damage to the shipping. The Merope dragged her anchors a little, and the Courier, ketch, parted her cable and ran foul of the Mullough and Maiden City, but did little damage. The Colleen Bawn, schooner, parted her cables and fouled, the Magnet, ketch, but here also there was little harm done. About 11 p.m. the gale broke, and luckily too, for had it lasted much longer something must have parted, as the wind was blowing a hurricane at from 7.30 to 10 p.m. _____
