— (Per Anglo-Australian Press Telegraph Agency.) Auckland, July 25. The jury in the ease Mac fail an e y Harris has been discharged without agreeing. It is understood that eight were for a verdict for the defendant on all the material issues, and four for a verdict for Macfarlane, with nominal damages. The owner of the Lady Bowen prefers a claim o f & t 2,000 as salvage against the Miiliades. A man named Finley fired two shots through the window of Young, butcher, Queen street, at Mr Davis, a clerk. IV Ui b.dls lodged harmlessly in the wall. The man was arrested, and a six-barrel revolver,
loaded and cocked, taken from him. No cause has been assigned for the deed. The William Gifford, whaler, has arrived at the Bay of Islands with oil of the value of £16,000, the produce of a year’s cruise. New Plymouth, July 25.
On Monday at 11 o’clock the gear of the Paterson, consisting of spars, sails, anchors, chains, steering wheel, ropes, three boats, saloon furniture, cooking utensils, &c, will be sold at Waitara bv auction.
One hundred more immigrants are to be sent here, as a number of men are wanted on the public works. Napier, July 26.
The immigrant ship Winchester has just just arrived in the bay after a fine passage of 8-1 days, with 1110 immigrants. Wellington. July 25.
The adjourned meeting of the N.Z. S.S. Co. was held this afternoon. Mr Brandon, on whose motion the last adjournment took place, did not appear, and the motion of which notice had been given, protesting against the sale of the Company’s licet, was allowed to lapse. The steamers therefore, will be sold as advertised, on the 31st inst. Information received from Taranaki this morning, states that as the cargo is got out of the Paterson she floats, and shows that the damage done is a great deal less than was anticipated. It is expected she will be floated off without difficulty. July 26. The Cyphrenes arrived at one and sailed at three. Timaru, July 26. A hundred immigrants cx Peeress, were landed this morning from the steamers Wellington and Comerang.
