Craig, Williamsons Ltd., a large- drapery emporium which has traded in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, fi r 63 years, is closing down business to-morrow. The business lias been in tlie hands of the receivers for some time. I lid premises were offered at auction last week and the highest hid was £335,000 below the reserve and was passed in. Tenders that had been called for the purchase of the stock and book debts were opened today, when it was announced thatMessrs Anthony Hordern and Co. of Sydney had purchased the stock and that Messrs. Ball and Welch, of Melbourne, had bought tlie hook debts. The advertised value of the stock was £131.022 and of the hook debts £-36.740. Most of the staff are being absorbed bv other Melbourne firms.

Tlio horses were judged at the Royal Show- to-day, the entries numbering -3000 or 700 more than last year, hut there were only three entries in vlio stallion thoroughbred section, the winner whereof was the exNew Zealander Deputy Ruler, whilst the others were the minor racing performer Dignus, which came second and the veteran Yalamita, which gained third award. Competition in tliu Clydesdale classes was very keen. New Zealand-bred predominating as m previous years, llie award for stall on, three years or over, went to Mr. T. Robson’s Superb, imported from New Zealand, which was successful in other sections. The cattle sales at the show opened auspiciously, bidding being spirited. The highest price for Shorthorns was 305 guineas..
