MORNING TEA PARTY Mrs P. -W. Smith was hostess; at a delightful morning tea party given at her home in Whitaker street yesterday. The guests of honor were Miss Faram, and Miss Whitfield who are visiting Gisborne from West Australia. Beaut’ful dahlias ornamented thedrawingroom and tlu breakfast room where a delicious morning tea was served, was gay with African marigolds and autumn flowers. The hostess received her guests wearing a smart navy blue jumper and skirt. Among those present were Mes--daines Yyorman, ©andlarit-. G. Cairns McFauyon, W. Jenkins, G. E. Robinson, H. Collett. Rhodes, and M. Rendon; Misses Far am and Whitfield.

INTER-CLUB CROQUET

During the season Lhe three croquet clubs in. Gisborne have played a aeries of matches in inter-club competitions for the pennant presented by the Hawke’s Bay Croquet Association. Gisborne Croquet Club is the winner, its score- for the season being 4i>7 points. Poverty Bay was next with lOopts., and Turanga, 338 points, was third. The games have been keenly -contested and should prove of great value in stimulating a competitive spirit among croquet players here. UK MON D WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The Dramatic Circle of the Ormond W.I. held their annual meeting at the borne of the convenor. Mrs. D. Smith. Arrangements were made to hold ,a dance and -IIX) evening in the Waercnga-a-hika School on Saturday April ,3. After the meeting a delicious hot savoury supper was served by the hostess. 1 EVENING CARD PARTY. On Saturday evening Air and Airs P. R. Stevens entertained tlieir guests at a delightful card party given at their homcJ in Harris street. The form of amusement was flag 500 and proved most exciting. . Tho reception rooms were most attractively decorated with lovely blooms of zinnias, asters and,ferns. The hostess received her guests, wearing a soft navy blue figured silk frock. During an interval-in-tho games a d.c-licious homa-mado supper was served. ■ Later in the evening several prizes were; given. .For gaining the most flags Air and Airs Prince and Air and Airs -Gordon were tho- lucky ones, while the 'prizes for tho most clips went' to Mrs Gordon and Mr Dennis. WOAIEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE AIEETING.

A preliminary meeting in connection with a building of a “Women’s Rest” was held in tho Parish Hall on Friday, March 19, under the auspices ot tho Women’s National Reserve). Tho plan of the building was on view and satisfaction of it expressed, and, on tho motion of Airs Fiuilds. seconded by Mrs Fairlio and carried,’ it was decided to accept same. Alany details wore discussed, but for various reasons, the meeting not being fully representative, and as tho co-opera-tion of all societies was desired, on the motion of Airs Cutlibert it was decided *0 call a meeting after the holidays. -All societies are to be notified and - Mrs Gofl’o and Airs Faulds undertook to do this. A large attendance is hoped for, as Gisborno urgently' needs a Women’s Rest and is practically the only town of its size without one. A vote of thanks to the) chair liought' an enthusiastic meeting to a ciose. ;

TENNIS AT KAI'TI. Saturday was an ideal day for tennis and a great number of visitors and players were at the Kniti courts. Afternoon tea was provided 'by the club members, the tables being prettily decorated with autumn flowers. Great interest was taken in the finals of the Championship Combined Doubles between Air and Afrs T) F Chrisp and ATr A. Shrolnnd and Afrs W. Neal, the former being the winners. Another most exciting match was the men’s singles in the Champion of Champions event between Air D. E. Chrisp and Air R. On Saturday evening the members ot tho Gisborne Repertory Society visited Afotu, and, following their highly successful entertainment at Gisborne, again produced tho play, “Tho Fourth Wall.”

On arrival they were welcomed by Mrs Wright and Mrs Thomson and other members of the Dramatic Circle, who dispensed a much-appreciat-ed buffet tea at the Motu Hall. Ihe attendance at the production was largo and the players wore accorded a warm reception, Miss. Millar, the producer, being specially applauded. Before leaving for town, the memhrtrs. and visiting friends were entertained at an informal supper party.

BALL AT WAIMATA. Chi Saturday evening the annual Dog Trial Ball was .held at Wadnata. Tho hall, with its gaily-colourcd streamers and nit;vu palms, made an attractive setting for tho many beautiful frocks worn by tho ladies. Supper eras served on the wide verandah from tables decorated with lovely prize dahlias grown by Mrs T. Bailey (Waimata). They were great|v admired by all. The organiser of this popular and most successful dance. Mrs' J, Ctillgren, is to bo warmly congratulated lor the able planner in which every detail was arranged. The committee helping her foot, E. Robinson, J. English, E. Breingan and J. O. Mazengarb. During the evening several competitions were held and tho winners of the Monte Carlo waltzing competition vere Miss Annie. BRIDGE PARTY. On Saturday evening a. most enjoyable bridge party was given by Airs rr . B. Pearson at lidr home in Ormond road, the guests of honour being three visitors to Gisborne—Mrs Rhodes (Wellington) and tho Alisses Fararn and Wliitlield, of Western Australia. The drawing-room, where bridge was played, was most charmingly decorated vith zinnias and guinea golds and tho diningroom, where a, delicious supper was served, was efficiently aria aged. The hostess received her guests, wearing a beautiful frock of midnight bluo crepe. Airs Rhodes chose an attractive gown of black and rose- taffeta; Aliss Favam. a navy blue lace and georgette fashioned on .graceful lines ; and Aliss Whitfield a most becoming frock of flame flowered georgette. Tho successful bridge players were presented with suitable prizes. Airs A. Stoneham won first prize, Airs J. \. Nieol the second iind the consolation prize, went to Airs H. R. Kendon.

WOMEN’S DIVISION OF THE FARMERS' UNION MEETING. Tlio monthly meeting of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was hold in the lounge of the Ala-' Elizabeth tea rooms last Friday afternoon. The president, Mrs Tlieo.

Field, was in the chair and presided over an attendance of about forty members.

Mrs E. R. Black read the iinauciul report of the successful garden party held at her residence ou February ID. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Refer de Lautour, her pianist. Mrs Esquilant. and pupils, who gave a much-appreciated exhibition of dancing; to Mr G. W. Smith, for carting to the King’s Theatre ; to the Regent for advertising; to the Gisborne Sl.eepf armors’ for forms lent; the Scottish Society for crockery; Mr Yigis for sweets ; and to the A.M.P. Society. Mrs J. R. Read was sent, to represent the W.D.F. Guild at a meeting of the Women’s National Reserve, held to approve plans of the Women’s Rest Room. The house-keep-ing secretary, Mrs Morrison, reported having placed 24 housekeepers since August. Airs N. Hooper and Airs G. Vincent gave an amusing one-act playlet entitled “Times Has Changed,” at the conclusion of which a hearty vote of thanks was accorded them. This concluded the afternoon and the members then had afternoon tea in the AJarv-Elizabeth tea rooms.
