ST. PATRICK’S DAY DANCE.

‘'Special to the Times.)

A danco organised by the members of St. Mary's Church was held in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The hall was gaily decorated with flowers, g; eoncry and bunting, and the attendance was exceptionally large. Items of Irish dancing, elocution and smging wore given by the pupils of the" Convent school. Music was supplied by the Kit Ivat Band, an extra being played by Mr K, de Montalk. TJio duties of M.O. were carried out }.-y Messrs. T. Hicko-y and B. Mulhern. Novelty dances -were Avon by Miss K. Anderson and Mr T. Walker, rind Miss T. Oroswell and partner. FARMERS’ UNION. SHORTAGE OF FARM LABOUR. * The annual meeting of the Opotiki l.ianch of the Ncav Zealand Farmers’ Union was presided over by the president, Mr A. E. Martin. The annual report stated that the executive had dealt Avith many matters affecting tho ii terests of farmers, Including tho Waiotalii Bluff road; embargo on Nic importation of lum-stock; refreshments at stock sales; shoep-Avorrying at saleyards ; also ■accommodation for pigs; compulsory unionism and extension of raihvay to Opotiki. The" second Saturday in each month at il a.m. Avas fixed for monthly meetings of the committee. It Avas decided r,o protest to the Government over the action of the! Minister of Labour in his settlement of the freezing works dispute, also regarding a statement made by a magistrate in regard to shortage of farm labour. Members wore of the opinion that there Avas a definite shortage of farm labour and that something should be done by the Government to ensure a suitable supply for oho coming season.

ACCIDENTS TO TWG LADS. Being thrown from a horse, Jack Parkinson, aged 17, a son of Air J. Parkinson, Tirohanga, suffered a broken leg. After attention by Dr. Rudd, the lad was removed to the Opotiki Hospital. While playing football at the Opotiki High School, a lad, 11. Alorris, son of Air C. Alorris, Opotiki, had his foot penetrated to a considerable depth by a. piece of bamboo. An opeiation was necessary to extract the bamboo.
