OLD BOYS CLUB ANNUAL REPORT Play throughout all grades was much improved last season, states the annual report, of the Old Boys. Rugby Football Club, to b© presented at the .annual meeting on Thursday next, and players* took a. greater interest in training, the facilities provided being a great help. Rugby football during the season was* most satisfactory to players and public in general, continues ,tlip report. “The P.B.R.U. is to be congratulated on tho success attained with its senior fifteen and the number of matches arranged for its players. The blub had had a more successful season than for many years, and although, the finances ane not in smell a • good position.,, more money was spent in trying to improve the play otf its* members 'by providing training quarters. Travelling, expenses were greater, the third grade team having to travel to Te Karaka on two occasions. \

The senior team was a most satisfactory onej all members trying to assist the club: and other grades, eventually. winning tho senior championship, this being the first time for several years. They also won. the 0., S'. ; Burt Premier Cup, . playing Celtic in the’ final for. both! trophies. The club was' fortunate in having a number of its players gain rep. lionwat :; V a ■ ■ *■,

The junior A team won the junior championship cup and junior knockout trophy. Good training and understanding among! the players were responsible for this team doing so well.

The junior B team being the. previous year’s third grade team was not 60 successful, but was by no- means outclassed or disappointing. They trained well and have to bo congratulated on iho showing they made. The tlii-rd grade! team were unfortunate in not having ia coach who could, spare the time, but they played well, retaining the Owen Oup against the challenge from Wairoa Pirates. A fifth grade team comprising school boys allotted from each school wad entered in the competition, land proved most successful, winning tlio championship. These schoolboy teams arc the ones that (should bo encouraged .and we trust the club will continue with this, means of training footballers for later years. The olub’s teams once again won the Aggregate Cup for most points .scored during the season. The club’s senior and third grade teams paid a social visit to 'Napier at (Faster time and played return matches against N.T.0.13. Club and N.H.5.0.8. teams.

Tin club w’slies «,to tender its thanks to the following for the most valuable .services- rendered: The chairman and members of the P.B. R.U., Drs. Bowie and Scott, St. John Ambulance Association, ‘Referees’ Association, and the press. The club also wishes to place on record the valued work done by tile president, Mr 0- S. Burt, Mr J. Alere ir,- the club’s delegate, to the Union, land Mr P. Wall, club captain, and. the various supporters who assisted tlio club during the season. During the season the club bad the misfortune to lose the services oi r its most valued secretary, Mr 11. Cunningham, who had done sterling work for the club for the past five years.
