LATE MR G. B. OMAN.
PUBLIC TRIBUTE LARGE CONCOURSE AT FUNERAL The very high esteem in which the late Air G. B. Oman Avals held was sfloAvn in a most unmistakeable manner by a, largo assemblage of mourners at the funeral yesterday. The body was laid in Holy Trinity Church and long before t.he hour for the commencement of the .service the streets in the vicinity Avere Avell lined. There Avas a very large number inside the church, many local bodies, clubs, institutions, etc., being re. p osented, as well as all sections of tho public, for the deceased avrs yenpopular Avith all classes. The first portion of the funeral service Avas read, and special prayers Avcro offered by Canon A. F. Hall, vicar of Holy Trintv. The coffin was then home to the hearse, the pall-bearers being Messrs J>. J. Barry, J. J. Martin, J. 8. Wauchop, G. Bradley-Smith, H. E. Maude, a.nd E. T. Chrisp. The casket and the hearse, and a special ear, Avere covered with beautiful floral emblems. Nearly 70 cans followed the hearse as it left the church, and many others joined in before the cortege entered the gates at Taruheru cemetery, the concourse around the gra\ reside being a. very large one. The last rites we e conducted bv Canon A. F. Hall. At the conclusion the Masonic funeral service was read by R. W. Bro. A. Williamson, of Lodge Turanganuf, and a. very large number of brethren paid their l last respects in the usual •impressive manner. Before commencing business at the meeting of the Cook County Council yesterday the chairman, Air. Chas. Matthews, said that as councillors no doubt knew, a very popular citizen, Mr George Oman, had passed away. He had been a resident of this district almost all his life and was Avell-known to all councillors. He had represented Cook County on the Hospital Board for some time and had been a member o F the Borough Council for a number of years. The funeral AA-ould take place that afternoon and the speaker would like to see as many councillors attend as possible. On the motion of Mr. Matthews condolence Avas expressed with the relatives, councillors standing in silence.
