Chris, is practically the same size as- the ‘ex-champion and; consequently wrestles’ very much alone; the same lines as Condos, his work being marked by cleverness, speed, and aggression. “Firework'.:” are expected when Russell get; into action as lie bars a reputation even in America of being something of a wrestling outlaw. He has great strength, which lie developed on the cattle ranges, and knows the wrestling game inside out. The amateur programme should be one of the best staged in Gisborne. K. Busekc. the well-known Poverty Bay welterweight, has accepted the challenge of E. Burton, of Hastings, for a special bout. Other contests will he staged between I. Buscke and K. Callahan; “Darky” Read and “Gurka” ;Wright; and R . Thompson and T. Turnbull.
NOTES AND NEWS. At Lcichlnrdt Stadium on Saturday, L-urich defeated Ha ban Singh by two falls to one alter an hour's wrestling in’ a (scheduled- two hours’ contest. Singh took the first fall after 30 minutes with an octopus hold. Lurch -equalled with a 'back loop slam, which left the Indian groggy, and, immediately on -resuming, Lurich repeated the process to win the contest, —P.A. ir * m Making clever use of his legs, Sam Leathers defeated Harry Kent by two falls to one at New Plymouth on Saturday night. Leathers took a sub-mis-s'-on Rail in the fourth with a- head scissors. Kent evened with a body press after flying tackles and. dumps, but 'submitted in the sixth, after being locked in. body scissors.—P.A.
