**<sJ2*»* ~ SECOND TEST AUSTRALIA OVERXVHELMS N.Z. VISITORS’ RECORD STILL NOT. BROKEN DOMINION SIDE FADES AFTER LOSS OF McQUARRIE .'Press Association). XVELLINGTON, July 11. Maintaining its unbeaten record, the touring Australian soccer team decisively defeated New Zealand in the. 'Second test at the Basin Reserve yesterday, when a crowd of S0C0; saw Australia playing, with more vigor than in the match against XXfollingt'on. race ,a.\yay to a, s—-0 lead in the first spell and, on the resumption, completely . dominate the game to win by ten goals to nil. New Zealand played as well as they were allowed, hut it was a- ragged best ,and they fell short of providing the opposition that had been expected of them. They were never happy against the brilliance and speed of the Australian attack, and their morale suffered. When McQuarrie, the left half, had to retire early in the game with a bad eye injury, it was soon apparent that- New Zealand, with ten men, would be no match for Australia with eleven and when, later, first CleaJ and t'lie-n Cawtherny had to receive at lion for injuries, the New Zealand attack became even more disorganised The gamoi lacked many of the bright pa-sing movements which char acterised the visitors’ display against Wellington and was duly waved -Horn complete disaster by the doggediiess of the weakened New Zealand defence under the continued pressure- af Ause trnlian attack's. It was here that Todd Shone .and also Haines, the other Wellington man, who, though «low at times, was always steady when the position looked most- difficult. The Australians functioned smoothly as a team and brilliantly as individualists. Wilkinson, on the right wing, was the main spearhead of-many attacks and his speed, ball control, and accir ate centring were big factors in the success <of li\s side, whose defence was seldom seriously tested. ’The scorers were: Price (2), Cameron (2), Smith (I), Donaldson, and XVilkinson. > BRIDGENS IN THIRD TEST The New Zealand isocecr team -for the third test at- Auckland next Saturday will .be: Smith (Auckland)!, Ilaggitt (Auckland), Speed (Auckland) Todd (Wellington), XVright (Auckland), Chapman (Auckland)-, XVood (Auckland), Jepson (Auckland).
