A judgment of; the Arbitration Court fixing the hours of work in sawmill, box factory and timber yarn industries at forty per week, exclusive of overtime, was delivmut bv Dir. Justice Page to-day. Tho judgment was that it hod, not been established that it would be impracticable to carry efficiently on with a forty hourweek. Halos of pay would be adjusted so that the’ordinary rate would not bo reduced byreason of the reduction' in working hours. The question of iixing hours so that no part of the working period fell on a Saturday would be dealt with in a subsequent memorandum. Judgment fixing the hours at forty was also given on the application of the workers under the Northern, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago and Southland woollen mills employees’ award. It was considered not impracticable to carry on efficiently industry or work .of any of the factories in question on a iorty hours , week.
