The floor is constructed of kiln dried Li in Her and dry river sand Sin. thick. In the middle of the sand runs electric heating wire-s .spaced a few indies apart. These heat the floor to about 10(> degrees, Tho walls contain an insu la ted* space 2ft. thick. A noteworthy advantage of the system is its .safety and long rclont/on of I cat. by the compressed sand between the floor-board mg. Experiments proved lihbt' after the power had been switched ofF tho tem-jeraburu of flip floor fell only live degrees in.throe hours, so that power can lie switched off during the peak period, resulting in no addition to the hospital electricity bill, the hoard being charged on .it flat rate. The system was devised by a local electrical engineer.
