ARRIVAL OF VISITORS

BILLY BOY MOVES FREELY

Frost and fog prevailed at Trenthain on Tuesday morning and work was in consequence restricted. The Saudwichman, Big Dook, Hunter’s Morn and Emotion were the only visitors. The tracks arc soit and inclined to cut up a good deal, although they are still far from being in their usual heavy winter condition.

Billy Boy is an acceptor for the Wellington Steeplechase and R. W. Lewis now is inclined to change, nis mind about not running him. Billy Boy worked on the (hit with plenty of dash. He looks well and must bo seriously considered, especially as the field looks a weak one.

Korero, who now has the tracks ’ o his liking, worked well over a mile in company with Rose Yal. I’. R. George also has Rose Val and Boomerang in the Whyte Handicap. Boomerang has freshened up after his racing at Otaki and he- was going hotter than Shy at the end of c.

working gallop over seven furlongs. c. Thompson, who has been engaged to ride Red Sun in hurdle races at the meeting, made a trip to ride him in a schooling effort on Tuesday morning. In company with Camilla. Horn, Red Sim jumped six hurdles and gave a very satisfactory display. Camilla Horn (D. Bush), although outclassed by her companion, did wed foi a. novice.

Diamond schooled stylishly over Iho steeplechase fences in the centre of the course. He then worked at a strong pace on the fiat and showed no signs of soreness, hut ho does not appear to bo working with his usual dash.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-NIGHT

Nominations tor all events at the I’overty Bay Turf Club’s steeplechase meeting to be held on the Park racecourse on July 23 and 25, close with the secretary (Mr. If. E. Dod) at 8 o’clock this evening. An additional trophy, a eant'en of cutlery, will go to the winner ol the Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase Handicap on the first day.

As over 50 horses are in training locally at present, and a number of outside owners have expressed thenintent ion of being present, it is anticipated that the meeting will be the best held for many years.

Handicaps lor the first day’s events will be declared on Friday July 10 and acceptances are duo on July IT. NOTES AND NEWS. Nominations for the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s Steeplechase, meeting on July 23 and 25 close with the secretary' (Mr H. E. Dodd) to-night at 8 o’clock. The acceptors for the Victorian Grand National Hurdles’ next Saturday include: Full Charge 11.6 Sixteen Annas 11.5, Pooley Bridge 11.8, Brilliant Sou 10.6, King Colossus 10.3. Mutus, a four-year-old Songbird— Olga gelding trained by T. Hobbs for Miss V. Nicholls, of Malieno, made a promising debut in the Novice Handicap at Oamaru. Prior to the race he got rid of his rider and careered toward the scraping sheds, and just before tho start ho broke through the tapes. He was one of tho last to begin in what some of tho riders appeared to believe was a false start, and then ran into second place. Olga, dam of Mutus, is by Kilraiu from tho Stepniak mare Waimato Maid.

Tho ex-New Zealander, Limarch has been purchased by Mr. A. Reynolds, of Singleton (New South Wales) to join the imported stallion Pliant n as a studmate.—P.A.
