Artistic floral decorations and laigo log fires offered a decided contra-t loathe wintry conditions out of doors Hydrangeas and- howls of mixed blooms in golden tonings wore chosen for the -adornment of the drawingroom, and in the dining-noom, where a -delectable t a was served, crimson berries were alluringly combined w.th rrreon hydrangeas, a bowl of Iceland poppies and galliarclias lending a no.e of color to the charmingly arrang o table. The hostess was wearing an elegant frock of black crepe romaine ornamented with a shirred corsage bon of matching velvet. Aliss Runeinum wore a smart su t of sen green wool crepe finished- wilh ehnominm buttons, a halo hat of silver grey felt and squirrel fairs. Among the guests were: Alesdames E. E. Brown, P. C. Cox—were each rewarded with an attractive prize. Each guest brought a green gift for the bride-to-be and the opening of tho numerous parcos revealed pretty and useful articles in every conceivable shade of green. Airs MacDonald welcomed her daughter’s guests, wearing a graceful frock of black crepe do chine with a silver grey corsage. Miss MacDonald was smart in a fiock of cherry red sand crone cut on simple lines. Miss Alargolionth chose a becoming Dock of black flat- crepe, printed in a floral design. A SOCIAL AFTERNOON. A most delightful social afternoon was organised by the members of the Poverty Bay Victoria League at the homo of tho president, Afiss A. L. Roes, on Saturday. Prior to the opening of proceedings'tho secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence to the relatives of the late Afiss Eva Barker, a former secretary and a life-member of tho league. Tti the course of the afternoon a i cry interesting article entitled, “King Edward V 11.,” from the pen of John Alasefield, was read by Airs I. J. .Quigley and very much enjoyed. During a pleasant interlude Miss Rees made a presentation to All's W. A. Smith, another life-member and former secretary of the league, who is leaving shortly to reside in Dunedin, as a tribute of appreciation from h r fellow-members. She also expressed regret, at the departure from the district, of Airs Smith and wished lmr every success and happiness in her i.ew home.

Tho gift and good wishes wove suitably acknowledged by the recipient-. POVERTY PAY HUNT CLUB. One of the best clay’s sport experienced so far this season was enjoyed by keen followers of the hounds at Awapuni on Saturday. The attendance was exceptionally large and included among the interested spectators were a number ol visitors.
