DEMAND FOR' NEW HOUSES.
(Special to the Times.) OPOTIKI, June 11
Flip demand for new houses in the Opotiki Borough is so great that contractors - are having considerable difficulty in obtaining skilled labor. Despite the fact that a great many house;-; have been built during the last few years, it is difficult to secure a first-class dwelling for renting.
OTAR A WOMENS INSTITUTE
At the regular monthly meeting, Mrs Medley presided. A humorous roll-call resulted in a good response of reasons as to “Why and Why not a, Holidaying Wife should he accompanied by her Husband.” Miss Harrison ably demonstrated the method of icing cakes. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames. Allison and Forbes and Mbs Neilson. An interesting talk on her recent visit to Fiji was given by Mrs Humbly. A well-stocked sales table in charge of Mrs U. Parkinson received good patronage.
BAY OF PLENTY A. AND P ASSOCIATIONS.
The annual meeting of delegates of the Bay of Plenty A. arid P. Associations was held at V hakatane on Wednesday afternoon, delegates being present from Whakatane. Opelika To Puke, Tauranga and Katikati. It was decided to add classes for four-rnonth-old boars and sows and to issue championship tickets in the pig classes. Show dates were fixed as follows: Opotiki—Friday, Feb. 12: Whakatane —Tuesday, Feb. Hi; To Puke—Friday, Eeb. 19 ; Tauranga—Wednesday, Feb. 24; and Katikati—Saturday, Feb. 27. -V vote of thanks was accorded the Opotiki Jockey Club for its consideration in altering the date of its meeting so as not to clash with the show dates. The question of the letting of show space for side-shows was considered, and it was decided that the charge for space be 1 - per foot with a minimum of 10/- for each amusement. It was decided iiiat each association allot a lull page in its show schedule, free of cost, to each of the other associations. Mr R. Ruddick was appointed delegate to represent the Bay of Plenty at the Royal annual show conference to be held in Wellington next inenili. GOLF. On Wednesday aiternoon, in ideal weather, a mixed foursome was played on the Opotiki links, there being largo entries. Ihe best scores were as follows: 3Jiss Wilson and Carter. (jn (20) —70; Mrs Duffe and Roe, 93 (22) —71: Mrs Vanstone and Thompson, 90 (131 —77 : Miss P. Holloway and Semple. 101 (23)—78: Mrs H. Clark and G. Fox. 70S (30)—78; Mrs Kidd and Kidd. 100 (22)—78.
