OBITUARY
AIR. JAMES SAAIUEL ALLEN. The death occurred on Thursday night at Cook Hospital of Air. James Samuel Allen, aged 61 years. The do, cco.scd was a well-known resident oi the Ormond district. Afr. Allen was born and educate'! in Philadelphia. U.S-A. He came out to New Zealand when about- 19 years of age and settled in Hawke’s Bay. At the time of the South Afriein "War ho travelled to Africa and there joined the Johannesburg AJounted Rifles, his regimental number bHng 22226. At tho conclusion of hostilities ho returned to Hawke’s Bay lor a short period, after which he moved to Poverty Bay and' took up farming at Ormond, where he- hod been living for the past 33 years. During the course of his residence in Ormond Air. Allen was a member of the Ormond Cemetery Boaid, c-haii man of the Ormond School Committee and secretary of the Ormond Sports Club. Ho was chairman of Air Gordon Hultquisths election campaign last year. Air. Allen, who was a keen sportsman. took a prominent part in most of the public functions at Ormond. He was recognised to be a capable farmer, while he hnd also an extensive knowledge in the sinking or wells. D;ep sympathy will be extended to his widow and lamilv of two sons. Air.. George Allen. Topini, and Afr. Thomas Allen, Ormond. and three daughters.. Airs. R. Batchelor. ot Hexton, Aliss Ellen Allen, matron oi a convalescent home in Ashburton, and Aliss Ethel Allen. Ormond.
