N.Z. WILLING TO FIGHT FOREIGN SUBSIDIES.
GOVERNMENT PREFERENCE- TO BRITISH SHIPS HINTED.

Interviewed on Mr. Alexander Shaw’s statement with regard to the withdrawal of the San Francisco steamers, the Hon. M. J. Savage, the Prmie Minister, stated to-day that in conjunction with the other Dominions affected, lie thought something 'should bo done. “We are prepared to pul! our weight,” he said. He referred to the fact that certain conversations had taken place between the past Government and the Australian Government on the question. To discover all the facts bobin 1 t lie announcement that the British shipping servico between Australia and San Francisco will be withdrawn, if more support is not given, Mr. Lyons, Federal Premier, cabled the High Commissioner, Mr. Bruce, in London, for further information. Mr Lyons will later cable Mr. Savage for tho opinion ol the New Zealand Government.
Mr. Lyons is also giving consideration to tlie report that Canada-Aus-tralia-New Zealand shipping service may be withdrawn.
