The King Egbert’s bows were damaged. Both ships arc returning to Victoria under their earn power for survey.

(Received July 18,’ 10.50 p.m.) VICTORIA, July 18. The bows of both ships' were damaged,. The collision occurred in the straits of Juan de Fuca, twonty-tlirOe miles west -of Race Rocks. It is understood the collision occurred in a fog. The Niagara, was the first to send an S.O.S. It is understood no .one was injured. No request was made for salvage -ships, as the vessels - ape proceeding back under their own power. The Niagara was. reported to be leaking and Captain T. 4k Hill took stops to -safeguard his passengers in case of emergency. The King Egbert was en route to Victoria from Port Alberni. A later message -stated - that the Niagara anchored late to-night in Royal Roads, Bqu.iimi.lt. She may enter dry dock in the morning. VANCOUVER, July 17. Tho Canadian-Australian line stated that jt is: understood that the Niagara, is only slightly damaged and probably will proceed again tomorrow.

VANCOUVER, July IS At Victoria the passengers were taken off tb e Niagara on Thursday mornim; as the Canadian-Asutralian liner rode at anchor in Royal Roads following her collision w’iGi the King Egbert. ’Details are still meagre. * Apparently in a dense leg. the King Egbert, at K-Squimalt, snii’sliod in the front, forefoot of the Niagara, an tl ciit hi ton feet at the ipain deck. The shell plating fripn the foreldol to the main deck was crushed and distorted, as wins the- ho-w framing. It is reported that- tl»c passengers oh the Niagara suffered no discomfort.
A member of the King Egbert’s crew said lie thought the Niagara had been badly holed towards the storm-.-
The forecastle of the King Egbert was demolished and the hawse pipes and anchors had carried away. The damage was confined to the bow, extending back t 0 the collision bulkhead.
