Of this amount he spent £5 on newspaper advertising for next day’s business and kept '3s 9.\d in the till for change. lie maintained that general policy, and built up America’s greatest retail business. Johu Wanainaker was tho biggest retail advertiser in the world. Most of the successful retailers in America built their business on their policy of putting all tlieir profits back into advertising during the early days of their growth, using principally the “family” newspapers.
