Twenty thousand houses were destroyed or isumboTged. AU rivers burst their bank* carrying off sixty bridges. Sixty are dead in Japan owing to the floods, including miners trapped iln collapsed pits. Fifty thousand Ilduses were floodedKyoto has 2000 homeless, and 75,000 houses are affected. In Osaka many factories stopped working. A huge reservoir at Nishinomiya burst, inundating 10,000 houses. The watermains rn Kobe burst and the city lacks drinking water. Troops are working in Kyoto and Ocaka to assist in maintaining the embankments.
