Gladstone road took on a carnival air yesterday when festoons of flags were strung across the thoroughfare •by members of the Borough Council staff. Much of the material used was that utilized at the. time of the visit by the Duke of Gloucester. The Power Board staff has also placed strings of colored lights in position and individual firms are being invited to dress their own premises in readiness for the Jubilee celebrations on Monday. Shops, offices, Government departments etc. are all to observe a full holiday. d'be order of the service at the Trafalgar Rotunda, on Monday has been finalised as follows: The singing of the National Anthem ; opening address by the Mayor, Mr. John Jackson ; address by Miss A. L. Rees, representing the Victoria. League; a hymn, and Scripture readings by the Rev. E. W. Batts and Air. F. J. Marshall ; hymn; address by the Rev. IV. S. C. Stephens, vicar of Waerenga-a-liika parish; prayers by Canon A. D. Hall, folowed by the Benedicltion and the National Anthem. The service will coipmence at 10 a.m. Arrangements have been made with Mr. 11. J. Kerridge to hold. the service in the Opera House in the event of the weather being unsuitable for an outdoor gathering. SEATS FOR. THE JUBILEE. i It will take five weeks and 2,000,000 ft. of tubular steel—requiring 50,000 joins—to complete the stands for silver Jubilee spectators in the Mall just in front of Buckingham Palace, London. Nearly three miles of stands are being built in the neighborhood of the Palace for the Royal procession on May 0. .They, will flank both sides of the Mall from Admiralty Arch to Bupkinghani Palace —the 'r.oute -of the King’s return. The : stands,)will, have four decks and go hack 13ft- The Office ef Work's will spend, a total; of, £12,500, on the ' stands. They will hold 26,000 spectators. Twenty thousand; of the seats will bo reserved for the Government’s .guests, foreign potentates, State officials, aud members of the services. rSis thousand seats will be placed, at the disposal of London hospitals, who may chargo what they wish for them. The Westminster and City of London • councils (’say’s the ‘ ‘Daily Express’ ’) 'are trying to arrange,,with, the Office of .Works for a uniform; scheme of decoration all along, the-King’s route.
