TTArBER AYORKERS' DISPUTE. <l’< o.ss A sseeie-t>OJU TAUAIARUNUI, May 2. A Conciliation Council meeting was held here to-day to consider three disputes under the Conciliation Act regarding wages in Auckland; AVellington and Taranaki districts and to fix terms and conditions of employment of workers in country sawmills. The application was made by the employees in the timber industry. The Commissioner (Air. P. Hally) presided. The employers offered a minimum wage of Is Gel and on this offer tho whole discussion centred. The advocate for the workers suggested Is 8d as a minimum. The employers considered that they could not do this with, safety to the industry. They considered that the present improvement had been due to the unemployment building subsidy. The workers eventually offered to accept a minimum Wage of Is 7d provided that revision he made in the whole schedule of wages in the same proportion. The employers refused t-ci accept hut tlie workers’ advocate stood firmly against Is 6d as tho minimum. The council adjourned for 28 days to allow the parties further to consider the matter and call another meeting if there is a likelihood of an agreement. .
