The matter was left in the hands o the chairman with power to act, Mr Ball commenting that the illuminations would he on the same lines as during the visit of the Duke at Gloucester. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Engineer, Mr <3. T. Cnthbert, reported, inter alia, on the following matters: — ‘ ‘Transformers. —Five transformers, totalling 42* k.v.a. were erected during the month while four transformers (30 k.v.a.) were returned to the worsbop for overhaul and testing, A new 7i k.v.a. transformer was placed in service for supply to the aerodrome hangar. Maximum demand records are being continued on transformers in country district:;. “Air-Break Switches and H.T. Fuses. —Two three-phasa sets qi h-t----fuses, and two single-phase sets, were erected for tranformer protection and isolation when required. ‘ ‘Remote-Controlled fW a ter- Heaters. Over 200 k.w. of water-heatc-r load is now connected to the pilotwire, .uid is therefore under direct control of the powerhouse operator. “Community Lighting.—Number of lamps in circuit on March 31 totalled 170. “Maintenance Work.—Line maintenance end general overhaul work has been carried out in the following areas: Whatatutu, Te Karaka, Ormond, Waimata, Matawhero, Patui t'ahi Maputuke, Collins street, Muir street, Childers road, and also at both ends of Kniti bridge. “Telephone Line (Powerhouse-Pa-tutalii Substation). —The erection Of this important communication circuit between the hoard’s two main operating points is being pushed forward as fas as other work, of an urgent nature, will allow. At the end of the month the wires were run from the powerhouse to the Patn-t-ahi side of the Waipaoa crossing. Although .still uncompleted the circuit has already proved its usefulness for communication between line gangs equipped with, portable telephones, and the powerhouse. On a recent occasion much time was say- - ed. as after the 11,000-volt lines were switched out at each end ‘clearance 5 was immediately given to the linesmen over the ‘phone and work copi-j, menace!; whereas previously the men had to await deliver of meseage ‘that the lines were safe to work on 5 per medium of lorry or car transport. “Street Lights in Main Town Area —The two series circuits from Teel street substation have, been re-ar-ranged so as to give a better balance <X F street lamps and line losses on each constant-current transformer. “Reticulation in Town Aren. —The overhead reticulation in the following localities has been increased to cope with the growing load conditions : —Aberdeen road (several sections), "Wellington street (Gladstone road to Aberdeen road). The conductors from the brewery substation have been tied-in as much as possible at street intersections so as to afford better voltage regulation. Several extensions have been made to the pilot system in order to bring additional water-heaters under control." Tim report was adopted.
