After searching Dublin and finding one of the few Australian flags availaide, the proprietors of the Royal Hibernian Hotel, at which Mr. J. A Lyons is staying, displayed it. Jt had been flying for barely an hour when the police advised its removal. as thc incorporation of the Union Jack might provoke more ardent Republicans to tear it down. Mr. Lyons in the afternoon visited Kildare, the home of his mother’s family. To-morrow ho will unofficially ('.all on Mr. De Valera. He will then go to Belfast at the invitation of Lord Crnigavon. He and his party were guests of the British Empire League. Dublin presented a strange appearance as, owing to the long-continued bus and tram strike, the population has taken largely to bicycles, with which the streets are crowded. NOT AUSTRALIAN FLAG HOISTED. HOTEL PROPRIETOR RAISES UNION JACK. (U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. C-xivright.) (Received April 25, G p.m.) DUBLIN, April 24. Regarding the flag incident, it is now explained that the proprietor of the hotel in which Mr. Lyons, the Commonwealth Premier was to stay, hoisted the Union Jack, thinking it was also the Australian flag. The police advised its removal, owing to the possibility of Republicans tearing it down, upon which it was hauled down. The whole incident occurred before the arrival of Mr. Lyons, who would have protested if the Australian flag had been hauled down.
