WESTFIELD MARKET •PRICES WELL MAINTAINED <Press Association!AUCKLAND, April 25, There was barely more than an average yarding of cattle at the weekly Westfield fat stock sale. The quality generally was well up to standard and. a keen .demand was mainlined throughout. Last sale’s values were-fully sustained and, in many cases, exceeded by up to 2s per lOOlbs., extra choice ox being quoted at 245. All cows and heifers of good quality sold well, recent price levels being easily maintained. Exti-a, choice ox 24-s per 1001 b.; choice and prime, 21s to 235; secondary and plain, 17s to IDs*; prime young cow and heifer beef, 20s to 235; ordinary cow beef, 12s. to 19s ;■ extra heavy prime steers, £lO to £lO 17s 6:1; heavy prime, £8 15s to £9 17s 6d; lighter prime, £7 5s to, £S 12s 6d; light prime, £6 5s to £7 2s 6d; small and unfinished, £3 to £6 2s fid; extra heavy prime younrr roWR and heifers, £5 10s to £6 10s; heavy prime, £4 10s to £5 7s fid; lighter prime, £3 10s to £4 Zs 6d; other kTllable cows, £1 5s to £3 7s fid. A smaller yarding of calves than for a considerable time came forward, with a rather low standard o i quality. Competition was faO'ly keen and all classes found buyers at improved prices. Runners made 25s to 88s; vealers, 20s to 555. Sheep were in short supply and. the offering included a few pens of benvy wethers. Bidding was brisk for both wethers and ewes of good quality, an;J last week's price levels were easily maintained. The number of lambs penned was also small and the demnd well up to the supply, with recent rates fully maintained. Wethers, prime, mfide 21s to 27s fid; unfinished, 16s fid to 20 s 6d; ewes, prime, 16s to 23st; unfinished, 10s to 15s 9d; lambs, prime, 16s to 24s M ■ unfinished, 10s to 15s <M. Pigs were offered in less than average numbers and competition was bright for both baconers and porkers. Values were very firm at late rates. There was good enquiry for store pigs, which maintained recent prices. Baconers made 48s to 735; porkers, 26s to 425; large scores, 21s. Prices per lb., were: baconers, 5 to SJ ; porkers, 4ad.
