“PSYCHIC” BIDS IN “CONTRACT” RATTLE. NEW YORK, April 1. Mrs*. Dorothy Sims,' is noted for her ‘physic” , bids and, ip. the 28th rubber of the contract bridge match in which she and her husband arc opposing Mr and Mrs Ely Culbertson, she made one that, bad a surprising resit't. "With the .jack t-tie only cl«b in her hand she bid “one club.” ■■ * “Pass” said Mr. Culbertson, ‘Seven clubs,” said Mr Sims. Mrs Culbertson smilingly slightly, also passed, and so did Mrs Sims, tense and apparently dismayed'. Mr Culbertson opened 'with the club deuce and Mr Sims flipped eight clubs on the table, including the acc\ king and queen. Mrs Sims took tlie trick with her one jack, and avoiding a near finease which she could not afford to take, although it would have succeeded, returned a small diamond to he trumped from dummy, which, was blank in diamonds. After clearing up the remaining clubs,,- two more rovmds of diamonds picked up Mr. Culbertson’s queen making Mrs Sims’ jack good and winning the lubber. Mr Culbertson, incensed, shouted; “There’s no such bid in any .system—not even in the Sims system- ‘One club,’ ’seven clubs’—hah !” The Culbertsons have won 15 ot the 28 rubbers played and are 2500 ahead.
