Nearly a quarter of a million men and women, representing 95 per cent, of the electorate, voted at the Danzig election. The electors formed queues early in the morning before the ISB polling booths opened.' Seventy per cent, of the electors voted before 2 o’clock in the afternoon. The poll dosed at 6 o’clock. 1

Provisional figures of the election are: Nazis, 148,272 (which is G 0.24 of the electorate. Socialists, 30,779. Catholic Centre, 32,956. German Nationalists, 10.601. Communists, 8268. Although the Nazis' vote apparently just fads to achieve the two-thirds majority necesoary to alter the present position, the big majority will make the League High Commissioner's task more difficult. Apart from minor street brawls, the only serious incidents were the assaulting of two Polish diplomatic officials. The Nazis will have about fortyfour seats in the Danzig Senate, instead of forty-one at the dissolution, but they wanted forty-eight seats to enable the revision of the constitution. Money was lavished on propaganda, so Dr. Goebbels and General Goering, the Nazi leaders, are frankly disappointed. Herr Papee, the Polish Minister at Danzig, has lodged a strong protest, alleging terrorism during the election, particularly in the case of two members of the Legation, who were brutally manhandled by uniformed Nazis in the main street of Danzig. The Petit Journal says: “It is half a. victory, hut a. disquiotoning one, for it will authorise Berlin to continue the pressure’’
