The hero of the day was Cox. a 25 year old : assistant, who defeated both C. W'hitcombc and A. Lacey. He turned two down to Whitcombc in the morning, but on the homeward journey bad a brilliant sequence of five threes and one. four. Cox heat, Liu-ey with a score- of four under fours. First, round results include: Easterhroolc bqnt King, 4 and! 3; Whitcombe beat Havers, 3 and J ; W. J. Cox beat C. Whatcom be 3 and 2; W. Branch, an assistant, beat Mitchell 5 ano 4. In the second round, E’astorbrook beat Davies, one up; Padgham beat E. Whitcomb© 3 arid 2; Cox beat Lacey 6 and 5: Comnston beat Branch 3 and 2. (Rec. April 7, 5 P.rn.) In the Roehnmpton semi-finals, Padgham defeated Easter brook: 5 and' 4; Compston defeated Cox, 4 and 2. Final, Compston defeated Padgham 3 and 1. C ora pst on’s victory at Boohn mpt-on, was a great comeback. Throughout the tournament, ho lags not plavedi a single bad round. Cox, in the somifiaial, never won a single hole. C'-onap-rtou, in the final, had the remarkable figures o* 63 for 17 holes. Padgham’s score was 67.
