MISHAP TO WAHINE

CASTS A PROPELLOR AT LYTTELTON. DIVER, MOMENTARILY IN PERIL •Press Associatinul CHRISTCHURCH, April 7. The inter-island steamer Wahino cast a propeller when entering the moles in Lyttelton diackoi; this morning. The anchor was dropped at once and a tug was signalled. The steamer berthed one hour late. Arrangements were at onoe made to, dock the vessel and the spare propeller carried on the ship will ho fitted. It is expected that the Wahino will ho able to go, to her berth tomorrow morning, receiving cargo as usual, and leave on the- run to Wellington in the evening.

• An accident which might have been serious,', occurred when the diver wa s going down this morning to examine the Wnhino’s shaft. The. diver had been down abou( : throe minutes, when with a loud groan, a, young nffin collapsed and! fell from the wharf into the sea. TTo fell across one of the mooring lines of the diver’s launch. There was an anxious moment while the diver’s assistant rapidly paid out more line and air hose. The man had had an epileptic seizure and two rescuers. Peter P.obinson and Edward Gillard, who jumped into the water, had diffilculty in: keeping' his liead above water. All three were lifted into the diver’s launch. The diver, of course, had been ignorant of the risks •he had run of having his lines and ait- hose fouled.
