The biggest peace time appropriation in United States history—one of 4,880,000,000 dollars—was voted President Roosevelt to carry out plans designed to end the dole and put men to work. A two and a-half months’ bitter struggle has ended with its approval by the Senate and House.

The measure is designed to put 3,500,000 employable now on relief to work on eight major types of projects and gives the President almost limitless power for tv;o years in using the fund.
