LOCAL SEASON ENDS FINAL SENIOR SERIES TWO CENTURIES SCORED Though the local first grade competition was decided a week ago, the Inal series of the scheduled proi gramme was played during the week 'end. The meeting ot the championship winners, City, and the runnersup, Civil Service, provided- a great tussle, the former -side winning outright by one run. City made 150 in the first innings, W. Lysnar notching 35 (six foun;)‘ and C. Fraser 30 (four fours), and T. Cornwall (two fo-r 22) did best with, the hall. Civil ; Sendee replied with 129, E, James 35 (four fours) and A. B’gnall 23. PStewart, seven for 57 in 24 overs, howled very well. In the second innings City made -only 73, G. Forster (15) doing best against the bowling of James (five for 42) and R. Carr (three for 20). Civil Service lost fivo for 29. hut good stands by C. Ingram 27 (two sixes) and H. Lee (25), altered the complexion of the game. The eighth wicket fell with, two runs required for a win and the ninth without addition. The team was one short and so City won by the narrow est possible margin. E. Bennett (lour for 3t), P. Dow (two for 8), and P- Stewart (two for 43), obtained the wickets. In the other A grade match, hataupoko defeated Alarist by an innings and 37 runs. Alarist made 149, H. AVyllio scoring 31, H. Reed 27, and B. Ogg 24. G. -T. Fchertson took six for 48 in 28 overs. AVhatnupoko declared with eight down for 234. E. Dow was in great form and compiled 123, including 39 fours. E. Bridge 38 (one six and five fours), did beat of the others. N. Lloyd secured six for 82 in 22 overs. Alarist collapsed in the second inning,; ter 48, E. Dow following up his good batting by taking eight for 16. , Turanganui defeated Gisborne Club by an innings and 175 runs. The winners declared the first innings with 291 on for nine wickets. A. Wifion rattled up 105, hitting two s'xos and 16 fours. R. Porter 40 not out (a six and six fours), D. Wells 33, R. Nicholson 26, and AI. Sharp 22 also did well. H. F. Forster, took four for fig. Gisborne Club made 40 in the first, innings (J. Jennings five for 14 and AI. Sharp four for 18), and 76 in the second innings Caulton notching 22. D. Well- (five for 22), and R. Nicholson (three for 15), took mest of the wickets. In the match between Old Boy.; and High School, owing to he latter team being available for one day only, it was agreed to declare the first innings closed after four byes had been scored. One over was sent down in eac-h innings and 1 ball was allowed to go to the boundary. Old Boys took their second innings thc-n and made 93. Four wickets 101 l for 2. but a- good stand between T. Bright (25 not out) and H. .Jamieson (24). then added 49. H. Alallett was in good form with the ball and his 16 even?, five maidens, yielded him five wickets for 20 runs. R. Thomson obtained .three for 14 in live overs. School lost two wickets for five runs and then the third at 29. Bilham made 11 and was fourth out at 45. C. Frazqr hen joined E. Gardner and tlic pair added 40 runs to give school a six wicket victory. Gardner batted very well for 46 not out, hitting four boundaries, and Frazer made 12 not out. G.
