RATE COLLECTIONS FOR YEAR EXCELLENT RESULTS ACHIEVED Rate collections in Matakaoa County for the year, especially in regard to arrears, are exceptionally good. Despite the fact that the rate for 1934-35 was 15 per cent, lower than in the previous year, the total amount ■collected to the end of last month was more tinui £2OOO above the total for 1933-34, nearly £7OCO above that in 1932-33, and almost £2OOO above the amount in 1929-30. Rate*; collected during the financial years ended at March 31 have been as follows: 1930, £8478; 1931, £6345; 1932, £5015; 193(1, £3615; 193-1, £8227; 1935, £10,266. The total for the year just concluded was made up as follows: Current rates, £4457 ; Government subsidy of 124 per cent., £1102; arrears of rates paid, £47o7—total, £10,266Rates -struck for the year 196435, with last year’s figures in parentheses, were as follows: European lands £5300 (£6255); Native land*'-, £3857 (£4551) —total, £9157 (£lO,800). The amount collected, with tho .same comparative figures, was as follows: European rates, £4071 (£4843); Native rates, £I4BB (£6721 —Total, £5 559 (£5515). The percent ag i collected again with the -same comparison, was ars .follows: European rates, 77 per cent. (77 per cent.); Native rates, 39 per cent, (15 per -cent.) Average, 61 per cent. (51 per cent).
