While spectators in a hall at ajt ■ agricultural' isliovv; at Port Elizabeth were admiring exhibits, there was :* sudden, deafening roar. A hole Oft. square was blown in the wall, and people were thrown about. This wap an alarming sequel to a display at the showgrounds by crews from H.M.S-. Carlislo with tour howitzers. At the conclusion of the display, the howitzers were trundled to the hack of the hall, when, oiio went off. When the panic subsided, Mrs Cocks' was lying on the floor with a dart-shaped splinter of wood, 15ft. long, protruding from her back and driven through her tshoulder.
