The death is reported of Colonel John iStudJjohne, C.H.E., D. 5.0., aged 71 pioneer, a director of the New Zealand Shipping Co., and member of many local bodies hero and in Ashburton. He took a prominent part in the Bible in schools movement. He served' with the N.Z.E.F., acting finally as assistant adjutant-general to Sir Alexander Godley.—P.A.
The death occurred suddenly this morning of Mr. Walter Guthrie Blackie, senior inspector of schools in the Auckland district. Mr. Blackie had left his home to play golf at the Akarana, Golf Club’s links at Mount Pioskill. Shortly after 9.30 he complained to a fellow member with whom ho was playing that he did not feel well and in a few seconds he collapsed. Medical assistance was summoned, but life was extinct. Deceased suffered from heart trouble.— P.A.
