STORTFORD LODGE HASTINGS, May 24. Prices were much on a par with last week’s in the fat cattle section at to-day’s sale at Stortford Lodge, when a moderate yarding came forword. WAIKATO MARKETS HAMILTON, May 24. No doubt the advent of winter has had the effect of driving largo quantities of both beef and boners to the yards. At the various saleyards during the week heavy yardings of both ox and cow beef have been -penned’. Unfortunately, there has been no improvement in price; in fact, some of the exporters have reduced their schedule by cutting out the advantage of second quality beef. The schedule at the works today 5s 6d for boners and 9s per 1001 b. for prime, with Is extra for cattle killed at Southdown or Westheld. Of recent months yard sales have been much in advance of this schedule, but notwithstanding large quantities of boners have been handled by way of cow drives. Store cows arc still being sought after, although at prices which show a big reduction on values of two months ago. During the week a yarding of good quality cattle in the Rotorua district attracted a good attendance of buyers, and prices throughout, especially for the steer section, were up to expectations. Further, a fairly, large entry of empty station-bred cows changed hands from £2 to £2 18s. At these figures they looked very good buying, Another special entry of station cows that have been pasturing with Polled Angus and Hereford bulls was submitted at Frankton this week, and here again keen interns: was displayed, and a satisfacter sale resulted.
In the sheep sections there have been smaller numbers of fat sheen, for which prices have shown an im~ provemvent. Store sheep have been in short supply with the exception of a few pens of store lambs, for which only medium competition was forthcoming. The big sedtion is showing signs of easing, 'and smaller numbers of fat pigs are being handled. STOCK AND SHARE MARKETS. (Press Association.) AUCKLAND. Ma.v 25.
