Tho Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, received deputations at Dunedin yesterday, concerning the new maternity hospital and tho Hnast Pass road, and was guest of the Manufacturers’ Association at luncheon. The Minister left early in the afternoon for Oamaru and Tiraaru.—P.A
A gathering of 80 membra* of the Wellington lMrly Settlers and Historical Society of Wellington yesterday. celebrated the ninety-ninth birthday of Mr George Judd, of Lower Hutt. He arrived by the ship Martha Kidgway- in at. the age of five. A telegram was received from tho Governor-General, conveying warm congratulations: from Lady BJedisloe and himself. P.A.
Members of the New (Zealand Wosnen’s Association in Sydney held a reception yesterday in honour of Mr R. Forbes and the Misses l< orbos, son aml daughters of the New Zealand Premier, at the Arts Club. The guests were presented with boomerangs and horseshoes by the president. Mrs. -I. W. Prentice.
