SCHOOL COMMITTEES
FURTHER LOCAL MEETINGS. Further meetings of householders in connection with schools of this district arp reported as follows: A WAP UNI. Only 10 attended the meeting at Awapuni and Mr. E. File was in the chair. The chairman reviewed the work of the year and thanked the members of the committee for thensupport and the staff for their excellent work.
Mr. R. C. Adhun, the headmaster, referred appreciatively to the assistance given by the committee. The following were elected the new committee: Messrs. C. Pryce, E. File, A. G. Hicks, J. E. Hodgson, C. L. Harvey, J. D. Martin and F. Horne. Prior to the election, Mr. P. A. Munro intimated regretfully that it was impossible for him to accept nomination, but that he would continue to assist the school in any way possible. The meeting carried a motion of appreciation of the assistance given in the past by Mr. and Airs. Munro. At the initial meeting of the new committee, Mr. E. File was re-elected chairman. The lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. L. Harvey, wished to he relieved of his position, which he had held since the opening of the school, on account of the demands of other duties. Mr. A. G. Hicks offered to assist the committee by assuming the duties of treasurer, and he was elected to that position, Air. C. L. Harvey being prevailed upon to retain tin* post of secretary. TE KARAKA. The Te Karaka meeting was attended by about 20 and Air. C. Mills presided. According to the treasurer’s report there is a credit balance of £lO 3s 7d.
The following were elected the committee: Messrs. C. Alills (chairman) and AY. J. Nisbctt (secretary and treasurer), Airs. G. Stephenson, Messrs. T. Askew, AV. Fisher, S. Smithers and T. L. Earnshaw.
Regarding the dental clinic the chairman reported that all but two of the schools in the area between Alanutuke and Alotu proposed as a suitable district for the maintenance of a clinic, had intimated their support of the project. The outstanding schools were Ormond and Puha, and ho had hopes that these two would /yet find it possible to support the scheme, which he regarded as of great value. A vote of thanks to the headmaster, Mr. L. Cook, and staff of the school was carried by acclamation. Householders also expressed satisfaction with the outcome of a scries of concerts held during the term, which had enabled the committee to purchase a new piano for the school.
AI AKA UIU. At Alakauri Air. R. Campbell presided over a good attendance. The report and statement of accounts were considered very satisfactory, and the committee as a whole was re-elected, as a mark of confidence, the personnel being: Alessrs. R. Campbell (chairman), E. H. Butler, AV. Barbour, L. Cook and A. Reeves. A vote of thanks to the chairman and to the staff of the school closed the meeting. TINIROTO. The attendance at Tiniroto was only small and Air. W. McGonigal was in the chair. The following committee was elected: Airs. P. Richardson! and Messrs.’ AV. McGonigal ," H. Cooper, F. Yewen, and A. Richardson. Against her 'expressed wishes, Airs. Richardson was re-elected to the chair, and appreciative reference was made to her work in that capacity in the past. Minor improvements were suggested and discuss'ed, and a vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee for its services during the past year. :r .
