HANGING UNLIKELY
VAN DF.R LUBBE’S FATE. DUTCH GOVERNMENT INTERVENES. PRISONER. DETECTED. (U.P.A. bv Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 27. A Berlin message states that the Dutch Government has appealed' for tho commutation of Van der Lubbe s death sentence. The result is problematical, because German law requires a prisoner to make such a request but Van der Lubbe remains silent. The. Daily Express correspondent at Leipsiz says: ‘‘Flow much longer is this going to last?” asked Van der Lubbe of a prison warder, who replied telling Van der Lubbe -of the intervention of the Dutch Government, which would postpone the decision regarding the sentence for at least a fortnight. Van der Lubbe dejectedly pushed away a slice of Christmas cake which a warder brought to tho condomneu cell. It now appears to he unlikely that Van der Lubba will be hanged, -but Torgler will go to a concentration camp. Torglcr’s wife ba s given Dr. Sack, her husband’s lawyer £IOOO. which is all her money. When the wife applied for Stats relief, she. was curtly told: “Apply to the London committee before which your son gave evidence.’’ The Bulgarians probably will be expelled at the end of the week. BRITISH PRESS COMMENT. HONOR OF GERMAN JUSTICE VINDICATED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Dec. 27. Most of the newspapers comment on the verdict of the Reichstag fire triajl.
