MATAKAOA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
(Special To The Times). There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Institute held in the commerical room of the Te Araroa Hotel, showing how very interested members still are. The programme commenced with the Institute Ode, following by the reading of the minutes of last meeting and the balance-sheet of the social and dance. The dance showed a clear profit of £9 10s. The president (Mr. C. Williamson) spoke of the Christmas treat for children which the Institute hopes to hold in December. Parents were asked to train their children to sing some of the well-known Christmas carols ready for the occasion. The prizes for the most points gained at the competitions for the year were won by Mesdaines Watford 1, Rudland 2, and Ryan 3. The competition for the best pot of marmalade was won by Mrs Watford with Mrs H. C. Williamson 2, and Mrs. Rudland 3. In the competition for best knitted or crocheted beret, Miss Hitchcock was Ist, Miss B. Pearce 2, and Mrs Cowan 3. It was announced that, for the November meeting, the competitions would be for best bowl of sweet peas and the best one of roses.
