OPENING ON SATURDAY
COMMITTEE'S ARRAN GEM ENTS Preparations for the official opening of tho season next Saturday was the .principal business before- the weekly meeting of the management commitlee ol the Poverty Bay Cricket AssiiMr. A. R. Baker presided anil also present were; —Messrs V. O. R- Milford, L. 11. Thomson, A. Bignafi, A. C. AVoodfield, J. J. MacDonald, J. 55'. Blathwayl, and J. M. Kay, bun. secretary. It was decided to support a South Auckland remit, to the eOntereuce urging that an annual match ho played between representatives ol the four major associations and representatives of the minor associations. A letter- was received from the Waiapu Cricket Association suggesting November 20 and 21 as ,suitabledates for the Hawke Cup elimination match, and it was resolved that tho match should be played on the dates named.

It wag decided to aslc Mr. Milford to perforin the opening ceremony at 3 p.m. The draw for play in the minor grades on tbc opening day resulted as follows.— •Second grade.—High School v Ala ri.it A, High School ground; Marist B v Unemployed, Oval No. 4 wicket. Third grade.—Marist v High School C, at the High School; High School A v High School B. at the High School. It was decided that tho Thursday competition should bo opened on November 9,. and the draw for tho first matches resulted as follows Retailers v R.S.A.; Cash Stores v Wanderers, Ylf.-Biathwayt was appointed to act as secretary during the. absence of Air. Kay in Christchurch to attend the conference of the council. Mr.- MacDonald reported tlie re-ceipt-.‘of an anonymous donation o f half‘tho amount of tiinher required for '.the ■wooden practice wicket, and stated ; that arrangements • were well i’ll hand for the laying dow u u f the wicket. .. ■
