A. furious battle followed the escape of a trainload of convicts at Vologda, en route to the Archangel timber camps. The occupants of a, wagon broke loose on arrival at the station, overpowered and disarmed the guards, liberated their .fellow prisoners, set fire to the local police station, and massacred the inmates. Troop's hastened from the town and stormed the station buildings, where a fie'rco engagement occurred, hundreds being killed and wounded on both sides. Many of the convicts fled to the forests, .where soldiers are pursuing them.
