Copyright) LONDON, Oct, 18The “Financial Times’ ” Tokio correspondent says Japan is planning economic self-sufficiency by capturing new markets to recoup losses due *o foreign tariffs. She intends to take South American raw materials, including meats, woo!,' wheat, and hides, in exchange for manufactures. At present, almost all her wheat is imported from Australia and Canada, and her beef, tallow, and wool from Australia. The Government, because it may cost more to purchase from South America, is forming a great national trading company with branches throughout South America,
Little success has attended Japanese wool growing, because bamboo grass is fatal to sheeP. As Manchuria and Korea, are not handicapped in this respect, the new Japanese Manchnkuoian Sheep-Raising Association expects to increase the flocks from the present 2,000.000 to 25,000,000 within 25 years.
