BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETING

Meeting yesterday for theh first time since tlio borough elections, Hie Clisborno Harbour Board was attended by the following: Messrs. J. Tornbleson (chairman), J. A. Nicol, H. G. Smith, A. C. Steele, M. T. TirafFord, M. Doyle. H. J. F. Tomblefeon, F. C. A. Leggott, T. Cordon, J. B. Broadhurst, J. J. Macdonald, Glnis. Scott. Geo. Smith and Dr. 3. G. Collins.

The chairman extended eougrlaulationa to the borough members returned to office and "Welcomed the now members, suitable responses being made by the .members concerned?

A. letter was received from the Hum. J. G. Coates ashing the board’s support to the local bodies’ loan conversion scheme. —Tlio secre-tary-manager (ATt*. H. A.' Barton) reported that the matter "'as. being pushed forward as quickly a s possible. —On the motion of Dr. Collins. tlio finance committee and the secretary were empowered bo oroceed with the loan conversion. ' Tim TTairoa Harbour Board advised that’ a conference of local bodies roga.irding rating "'as to he held at Wairon. on June 10 and representation by the' Gisborne Board "as asked. —The chairman and the secre-tary-manager were appointed to represent the board at the conference. Two letters from local shipping interests complaining, regarding men from tho signal station being taken out to assist in tying up boats "' cVO received. —’1 ho chairman/* mentioned that the occasions cited were exceptional and would not arise again.— Mr. Scott stated that this matter wa s causing dissatisfacion on the waterfront. MR. TOMBLESON RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN. The animal meeting of the board wa s hater proceeded with. In vacating the chair, Mr. Tomblcsou stated that hi s term had been most pleasant, ex cent for the unfortunate necessity of reducing salaries and staff. Mr. George Smith moved that Mr. 3 Tombloson he re-appointed chairman, stating that in him they line! a man who could carry out the duties in a very capable way. This was seconded bv Mr. Trflfford "ho agreed that Air. Tomblesun had proved an excellent chairman and had the interests of the ratepayers thoroughly at heart. PROGRESS OF WORKS. The grab dredge is being utilised in transporting it to tlie job. “Haiti Lights.—Thp Power Board lias ’ completed the installation the Kaiti wharf lights on Hie series circuit. j “AVave Trap.—On May 19 the works committee made an inspection in the wave trap and authorised the foreman to proceed with his Proposed small protective work to Prevent .sand being-washed through the. old groyne at the eastern corner of the wave trap. “Permanent Staff Works. —I ho foreman and his men: have been engaged on works a s above referred to, also on various jobs including cleaning sheds and wharf approaches fitting shelves in waterside workers’ lockers, repairs to cargo shed doors and spouting, changing hawbour light gas cylinders, painting ambulance shelters, attending to Korun, Pelican machinery and tho usual sundry maintenance jobs. They have made alterations to the old sheds alongside—tlio Kaiti store to . enable, the concrete mixer to ho brought under cover. The concrete-mixer being cleaned and painted. The foreman ha s commenced filling ih with spare pieces ol : concrete and bolting up the piles of the inner dolphin at the entrance to the Waikanac basin. The lifeboat from the Pelican lias been taken over to the Kaiti yard for repairs and paining and tho Kjorua’s lifeboat has been taken out of the water for tho same purpose . “Relief* Workers.—An average of about twelve relief workers have been occupied cleaning np in tho Kaiti yard, removing rail tracks, cleaning, at the slipway and around the wharf approaches at No. 3 f j
